Step through the historic gates of Borde Hill’s newly restored Walled Kitchen Garden and enjoy a rare opportunity to explore a space usually reserved for guests dining at Restaurant Isca.
Available on Monday the 8th, 15th, 22nd and 29th of June, with additional dates to be added later in the summer, this guided tour offers an exclusive preview of one of the UK’s most exciting horticultural and culinary projects..
The Tour
Led by our expert Senior Kitchen Gardener Julia, the tour introduces the principles of biodynamic growing and explores the relationship between nature, soil health and seasonal rhythms within this extraordinary one-acre garden.
Originally built in 1906 and thoughtfully reimagined by award-winning garden designer Ann-Marie Powell, the south-facing Walled Kitchen Garden has been transformed into an immersive “edimental” landscape, where ornamental beauty and edible planting exist side by side. The garden forms a seamless extension of Restaurant Isca, creating an immersive garden-to-plate experience where seasonal produce is harvested just steps from the kitchen.
Wander along restored red-brick pathways framed by abundant planting, espaliered heritage fruit trees, and a carefully curated collection of edible, medicinal and sensory plants. During the tour, discover the garden’s four distinctive quadrants, inspired by the classical elements of earth, water, air and fire, and learn how each planting scheme reflects the character and energy of its space.
Guests will also be introduced to Borde Hill’s heritage plant collections and notable TROBI champion trees and shrubs – specimens recognised by the Tree Register of Britain and Ireland as among the finest or largest of their kind in the country.
The 30-minute tour concludes with 15-minutes to wander at leisure and soak up the atmosphere of this inspiring space.
