We are delighted to announce that Borde Hill Garden Charity’s Community Growing Garden project has won a place on the Big Give’s Earth Raise campaign – a seven-day match funding week dedicated to helping charities bring vital environmental projects to life.
This means that between the 22nd and 29th April, every donation made to our Community Growing Garden project will be doubled by the Big Give!
Every contribution will help to make the Community Growing Garden a reality. We have £200,000 to raise by this summer.
Help us build a welcoming, inclusive space where people of all ages can connect with nature for their mental and physical wellbeing. The biodynamic Community Garden will feature different height raised beds to enable communities of all ages and abilities to benefit from growing, apple orchards, edible hedgerows, polytunnels and outdoor cooking facilities, alongside timber seating and spaces for schools and community groups to sow, grow, cook and eat together.
Just £1 buys 4 fully biodegradable tree guards made from 100% sustainable, recycled material to protect heritage orchard trees as they grow.
Through the Big Give campaign, £10 becomes £20 and purchases a carbon steel spade for children, volunteers and visitors to use in the community garden, allowing them to contribute and enjoy the process of growing first hand.
£30 doubles to purchase one specialist Sussex Heritage Tree in the new orchard, to be enjoyed by future generations of young growers and contributing to Sussex’s protected ecosystem of pollinators, birds and wildlife.
£100 helps buy benches, picnic tables and wooden seating that will encourage groups to stay, eat and enjoy the fresh air surrounded by nature.
£250 purchases £500 worth of local timber sleepers to build one of six raised beds, designed to be accessible to all visitors, or buys a full tipper of best mushroom compost for the beds.
£500 doubles to £1000 and enables us to install vital water-saving equipment to ensure the project is fully sustainable and makes as little impact on Sussex’s precious water systems as possible.
£1000 purchases the Packing Shed worth £2000, fully weather resistant and heavy duty for secure storage and prep in all weathers.
£2500 doubles to pay for the construction of our outdoor cooking area, where visitors, school children and wellbeing groups can pick, prepare, cook and eat food grown and foraged together.
£7500 enables us to recruit, train and pay for the travel of volunteers from all backgrounds, from older gardeners with knowledge to share to young growers without their own green space and keen to make an impact.
£15,000 doubles to £30,000 and enables us to employ a Horticultural Apprentice for one year, supporting a local young gardener to build a career at one of Britain’s most renowned gardens while having the opportunity to directly shape this project.
