The Wonderfully Variable & Versatile Rose
As part of the 30th Anniversary Celebrations of Jay Robin’s Rose Garden, join us for an inspiring talk and guided tour with Michael Marriott, RHS Committee Member and former Rosarian at David Austin Roses.
In this talk, held inside the Animal Room at Borde Hill House, Michael will share his passion for roses, revealing what makes them such extraordinary plants. He will explore their incredible diversity in shape, size, and form, and show how their versatility allows them to enhance every type of garden – from formal to informal, traditional to modern.
Beyond their beauty in the garden, Michael will highlight the rose’s special place in our culture, from art and literature to everyday life. With his insights, you’ll discover why roses are considered among the most garden-worthy of all plants and how they can be incorporated into any setting, from intimate corners to large-scale landscapes. A Q&A session will follow the talk, giving you the chance to put your questions directly to one of the world’s leading rose experts.
After the talk, join Michael and Borde Hill’s Head Gardener, Mark Bobin, for a guided tour of the Rose Garden and surrounding borders. Experience the full glory of their summer peak, exploring over 750 David Austin roses in more than 100 varieties and gaining expert insights into their cultivation and care.
Whether you are a seasoned gardener or simply a rose enthusiast, this is a unique opportunity to deepen your appreciation for these timeless and versatile blooms.
