Performance Description
Written in just three weeks, Rossini’s The Barber of Seville is one of the most celebrated comic operas of all time, captivating audiences with its irresistible melodies and sparkling wit since its premiere in 1816.
The story follows the charming Count Almaviva, who, with the help of his quick-witted friend Figaro, sets out to win the heart of the beautiful Rosina and free her from the watchful eye of her scheming guardian, Dr Bartolo. What follows is a whirlwind of disguises, misunderstandings and plotting, as love triumphs against the odds.
From its exhilarating overture to unforgettable arias, Rossini’s masterpiece is bursting with energy and humour. Fast-paced, funny and full of heart, it remains as fresh and entertaining today as when it first delighted Italian audiences more than two centuries ago.
